mariaFausta releases ” BETTER, LIKE A MACHINE ” OUT 25 MAR 2022
mariaFausta returns with more rock infused sound, a clear departure from her 2017 debut album, MILLION FACES .
Themes touched upon in the self-composed and arranged tracks include memory, transhumanism, fear, and the unconscious. Other key themes include love, change, poetry and dreams–elements we hold close to be spared from the painful inhumanities of life.
“I’m Betting On You” delves into the alienation and disconnection from emotional and spiritual growth which technological progress foments. In “Adrenaline Rush,” she speaks of the urge to scream in the face of events and situations we can only passively experience. “Desert Hive” tells of escaping from an abandoned city and “The Colors of Rust” paints a picture of a city abandoned by poets and dreamers. But despite everything, there is still room for change and improve, as in the delicate “I want to paint it all” or search for yourself, for what you love, and then discover that you are loved, as in “Detach me from this path.”
She carves out space for a little lightness in some tracks as “My new car,” which journeys through one’s own personal wish list and the carefree “Little Girl” which captures the enthusiasm of adolescence and its many dreams.
The title track “Better, Like a Machine” is a more experimental track about a dialogue between a mysterious individual and a frustrated crowd that does not accept the existence of humanity.
Her most recent single “The Power of Money” is about what the title states but goes beyond money as a concept and zeros in on the power of choice that defines our daily actions and in turn, our very lives. The album closes with a one-minute ballad titled “Turn out the Light” that invites listeners to meditate.
